Welcome back…
From LifeTalk and the Adviser Growth Community this week:
Thanks to everyone who has subscribed to LifeTalk Insider - Let’s get stuck in…
LifeTalk averages 299 posts a month in the group – plus around 10,500 comments a month on average, with occasional peaks of up to 18,000.
Engagement – likes, shares and reactions – is even higher.
Since launch of the group in 2007, that consistent activity adds up to roughly 2.3 million comments in total! And with that much conversation, patterns emerge.
We see the hot topics that dominate (from technical queries to business growth ideas) and the shifts in sentiment around government and regulatory issues.
At times of national disruption the tone changes – like three weeks into Covid when posts became noticeably more emotionally charged. Some advisers were uncharacteristically abrupt or even aggressive; others more reflective and cautious.
LifeTalk remains the longest-running online community for advisers in the world – valued by advisers whether employed, self-employed or running their own firm. Huge numbers of advisers tell me they check in every single day. Last Christmas, 819 members visited the group on Christmas Day! 🎄
So what do advisers talk about in LifeTalk?
Networking. Best practice. Service gripes. Technical questions. Business development tips. More recently:
How AI can help them.
How newcomers can get started in the profession.
How 'veterans' can plan a graceful exit.
But the number one question asked more than any other since our Facebook group launched in 2007?
👉 How to generate more leads and attract new clients. In fact, in a forerunner to the group which started in 2000, lead generation was still the most discussed topic.
I started work in financial services in 1998 and I’ve been meeting financial advisers every week since then. The posts and conversations in LifeTalk, alongside forty-seven years working with a wide range of financial advisers have given me a unique perspective on the profession and advisers’ approach to marketing and lead generation.
The advisers who consistently succeed at lead generation don’t rely on luck or fads.
They follow a repeatable 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺. I always smile when I see them pop up on LinkedIn showing photos of them - 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯.
One financial planner I know has a two pronged marketing strategy - it’s incredibly simple and every month like clockwork he shares a cheerful picture of himself on LinkedIn ‘mid tactic’.
The advisers who succeed at lead generation don’t use random tactics. No magic hashtags. No fluff. No fads. But a system.
And now, after forty-seven years, I’ve put that system in a box. If you’re a newer adviser – or just looking for a lead generation reset – you might want to take a look.
It’s called The Financial Adviser Lead Generation System™
If you’ve ever looked at another advice firm and thought “They seem to have cracked it…” - this book reveals their secrets.

You’ll have noticed in the previous section that AI is coming up in conversations in LifeTalk.
You bet it is. In fact, it’s already the second most discussed topic — and it’s only been on the radar for a relatively short period.
And the kinds of questions we’re seeing have already evolved. It started with things like:
“Wow, has anyone tried ChatGPT yet?!”
From there, it moved into more strategic territory:
How could AI fit into an advice business without breaching compliance?
Which tasks should it take on, and which should remain human?
Which provider or platform is best for a specific use case?
And right up to the present day, where the tone is shifting again. Advisers aren’t rebelling against AI - far from it. But many are now doubling down on their human edge, reminding clients (and themselves) that human connection, empathy and judgement can’t be replicated by technology - leaning on the line that “the human touch can never be replaced by AI.”
I agree. In fact, that belief is the very foundation of my More AI. More Human. initiative. The goal isn’t to make advisers less human, but more. AI should be doing the heavy lifting, clearing the noise and freeing you to spend more time where it matters - listening, empathising and advising.
👉 That’s exactly why I launched the AI Clone Academy.
“Clone” is a metaphor - it’s not about creating a robotic version of you. It’s about doubling down on your human value by amplifying yourself, your voice, your values, your expertise - available 24/7 to engage prospects, answer questions, and start conversations, even when you’re not in the room.
It’s human connection, scaled. Come and learn more here.
