Paddy and 18 others: Couple, both under 30 earning £170kpa each, recent "hockey stick" in earnings, mean they have quite a bit of Carry forward and "lowish" pensions. They'll lose the childcare hours at this level, however they have the monthly cashflow an annual allowance (roughly speaking) to sacrifice £70k into a pension each for the next 3 years of nursery. A side from a loss in immediate income and assuming they can live on a £12kpm net income (Sad times). Are there any immediate downsides? Seems like a good way to get a huge bump in pensions early on, receive the childcare hours and then take the foot off the gas on pension contributions in a few years time. Click…
LifeTalk and 32 others: To what extent are you considering ways to work with a broader range of clients through education, courses and coaching-style models etc.? Click…
Alex and 5 others: Have been asked to present to 120 staff three financial wellbeing sessions at a company - mortgages, pensions and investing for beginners. Will be a first for me in this space. Any resources people can point me to would be greatly appreciated.
I’m aware of the IFW resources as I used to be a regional lead for a while but I seem to remember you needed the certificate to access these. Not sure if this has changed though. Click…
Chris and 26 others: First time poster, short term ‘lurker’.
Wondered if anyone has any experience of creating a FS business in the UAE? We have a long running, relatively large (£1bn + aum) DA business in the midlands. Sadly I am a little bit disillusioned with the UK at the moment and can see huge growth potential in Dubai in particular. Would like to gear our UK credentials up in this market; which I currently know very little about.
Any information / pointers / conversations welcome. Click…

Mark and 11 others: I have a friend with £150k in a DB pension and needs to transfer to personal pension/SIPP so can access for drawdown. Anyone interested or able to help as too small for company I work for. Click…
Eduardo and 18 others: I have a client who's married and a high earner. She wishes to shield some contributions/assets in the event of a divorce, that she's accrued from years of business hard work. There's no prenuptial agreement in place.
I've thought about discretionary trust set-up but this doesn't seem 100% secure, it doesn't seem. Also thought of offshore bonds assigned to her, under trust. I'm not particularly sure what options she has over here? Click…
Luke and 36 others: Dictation/transcript app or software recommendation for meeting notes? TIA! Click…
LifeTalk member and 28 others: I’ll soon be going out on my own, moving from an employed role to my own company (via one of the networks). Just working through the application process now.
I’ve got a small but loyal group of clients who came to my current firm through me, so they’ll be moving with me straight away (small number, modest revenue—accurate to say the least!).
Beyond that, I don’t have any contractual restrictions on who I can speak to, and clients are, of course, free to choose who they work with. I’d love for some of those I’ve built particularly strong relationships with to continue with me, but I’m not looking to actively target my current employer’s clients—that wouldn’t sit right with me.
So, I’ll be starting with a small base—probably enough to cover overheads but not much more—which means I’ll need to work hard to get traction and grow organically. Fortunately, I’ve got strong local connections (accountants, etc.), and I’m already getting referrals and calls through those channels, as well as the occasional Aldi fruit & veg aisle chat! Financially, I’m in a good position to cover personal costs for a long while, but obviously, I want to be at least breaking even as quickly as possible.
Would love to connect with anyone who’s been down this road—keen to listen, learn from your experiences, and share ideas. I’m a big believer in building a strong network of like-minded people.
Thanks in advance! Click…
Nathan and 15 others: If you could start with a blank sheet from a tech stack perspective, what would you go for? I'm thinking platform, CRM, client portal, compliance and cashflow. From a directly authorised perspective? Doesn't have to be a bias to what you already use I'm thinking what you feel would be the perfect set up for your business. Interested in people's thoughts on this. Whether that's what links harmoniously or just best of breed in each category. Click…
Phil and 97 others: Huge numbers of financial advisers are now using LinkedIn. Not surprising because it's a powerhouse of opportunity if you use it right. However this year there have been a few changes to the algorithm, which means that many posts are not getting the attention they could be.
I've put together 20 tips in a short guide on what you should be looking to focus on in 2025. If you would like a copy just let me know - email [email protected]
