Your LifeTalk Insider #64
The Weekly Newsletter for Financial Advice Professionals
Welcome back…
From LifeTalk and Adviser Growth Community this week:
Thanks to everyone who has subscribed to LifeTalk Insider - Let’s get stuck in…
Harry and 30 others: I’ve recently had a new client push back on fees (even suggest they will manage things for themselves).
At what point do other advisors walk away from new business when fees are a barrier for the client. Should I go back with a counter offer or walk away. For various reasons I have already spent several hours on this case. We can really add value to the client’s situation and they were referred us to from a long standing client.
I wouldn’t normally consider a counter offer but am interested to see other people’s thoughts. Click…
Dan and 12 others: Workplace pension transfers - MoneyHelper Madness.
Legal & General workplace pension. Need to transfer ASAP and despite completing their paperwork to opt out having taken full financial advice, they are still requiring client to have a MoneyHelper appt. Earliest date 6 weeks! Anyone found a way around this complete insanity? Click…
Ian and 26 others: Does anyone charge for initial/discovery/first meetings? If so what do you charge and is it offset later? Click…
Calum and 25 others: I did a couple of networking events today with the theme of selling myself to some local groups and professionals as somebody who can help with company pension schemes (GPPs)
Generally, this is an area that I want to get into and have been working to get into over the last few weeks. Question…
LifeTalk member and 16 others: I have a client who is looking to sell their house and use TFC/taxable income from various pension plans to pay off the remainder of their £180,000 mortgage next year. Their plans are to prop the pension balances back up during their employed years via maximising contributions where possible through bonuses etc. Question…

Marco and 25 others: I really like Fundment and am going to start using them.
I’ve done my due diligence (using DDhub) and the only issue is their financial status. They’ve said they’ll be in profit with their next accounts but they don’t subscribe to AKG. For those of you who use Fundment, how are you covering this off in your due diligence? Click…
LifeTalk member and 18 others: For someone who is level 4 qualified what is the most efficient way for them to reach chartered status please? Click…
LifeTalk member and 31 others: I’m about to embark on the path to become an IFA at 55, (never too late right?!). I’ve been used to earning 150k upwards per annum. How long do you think it will be before I can reach those levels again? Click…
LifeTalk and 4 others: Have you ever had a client who changed your perspective on what financial planning is really all about? Click…
Luke and 21 others: School fees. I think I know the answer, but can’t hurt to ask since VAT came in. Obviously the standard recommendation is to talk to an accountant etc etc.
However, has anybody come across any scenario or structure where the parents have a Ltd company and somehow have tax efficiencies as a result. Might be just the VAT, might be a % share of the fees. Could be that the kids are actually shareholders of the company already that makes it possible. Charities. Training. Anything at all that facilitates the company paying some or all of it? Click…
Jane and 56 others: What do we call what we offer - advice, planning etc. Having been in some heated debates recently on what is planning and what isn’t, it has reminded me how hard this is for clients to work out as well. Click…
LifeTalk member and 18 others: Received my first ever DB complaint last week from a friend who I’ve known for 30 years. Complaint came via a CMC. Tried getting in touch but knew he’s on holiday. Called me back today and it turns out that he had filled in a Facebook advert form to get ‘fees returned from quilter’!
CMC had manufactured a full DB complaint from a simple form filled in online. They hadn’t even spoken to him and he was completely unaware that they had contacted our firm and that the complaint had been directed to us. Thankfully he has withdrawn the complaint, my blood pressure is returning to normal and I may get a full nights sleep tonight. Comment…
Hugh and 14 others: Any recommendations for a risk profiling tool that can be completed online by the client? Click…
😮 I've now seen four examples of financial advisers who have attracted new clients because their websites were recommended in ChatGPT.
This is very good news for a wide range of advisers looking for new leads and it puts smaller advisers on a par with larger firms for visibility online.
ChatGPT is looking for certain specific things on financial advisers' websites, so AI search results can be influenced in a variety of quite simple ways. We now have a comprehensive How To guide on how this works and how you can dramatically improve your chances of being found in ChatGPT search results.
