From the LifeTalk forum week ending 5th May
Prior to the LTA changes, if a client was going to have an LTA charge when taking benefits, normally it would make more sense to take the DB benefits, prior to any DC benefits to avoid a reduction in the DB income etc. Question…
Cash flow modelling assumption query. A client has around 500,000 in Google -built up over the years through employee schemes. It makes sense to sell it and diversify risk. Given the risk on a single share is massive. Question…
Chatting to a friend of our intern today about a career in financial planning. He told us that he was going for an interview with SJP. BUT before he could go on the interview he had to provide them with names and contact details of 30 friends and family members. Question…
I’ve got a stall at a couple of events this year (Pride events). My aim is to speak to potential clients and hopefully generate some leads. Question…
Quick IHT issue... parent wants to sell property, gift the cash to her child who is then going to buy a property herself and then mum is going to live in it rent-free. Question…

Serious question, is it me? Just had a new client come in to see us. He explained that he had set up a pension in Nov ‘19 to help extract money from his business etc. He has spoken to a IFA who has arranged the pension, consolidated them all etc, which the client was happy with. However, the client was disappointed with the performance. Question…

Marketing Tip: I saw this and thought of you
Old-school version
To keep the relationship plates spinning, several IFAs I know periodically send clippings from newspapers and magazines to clients where an article or item of news has relevance to them. For example, if you know from your earlier factfinding and relationship building that a client plays golf, you can send a clipping from the sports pages of a newspaper with a Post-It Note attached, with a hand-written note saying “John/Mary - I saw this and thought of you.” Emails with links to articles on websites also work well.
New tech version
Instead of sending an actual paper clipping, send your “I saw this and thought of you” message to the client in a short video email. Useful resources for video email and messaging include:
BombBomb
Dubb
Bonjoro
Loom
LinkedIn.
Video email is rapidly growing in popularity amongst advisers - here are six benefits of using video email in your financial advice business:
Personalised Communication: Video email enables highly personalised messages for individual clients, building stronger relationships and increasing satisfaction.
Improved Understanding: Video email simplifies complex financial concepts, improving clients' comprehension of their financial situation and advice.
Increased Engagement: Video email enhances engagement by providing an engaging format that increases the likelihood of clients taking action.
Flexibility: Video email can be used to deliver a range of messages, from personalised financial advice to general updates.
Branding: Video email allows financial planners to showcase their brand and personality, creating a more personal connection with clients.
Analytics: Video email platforms often provide detailed analytics, allowing financial planners to track engagement and better understand their clients' preferences.
