Your LifeTalk Insider #45

Welcome back…

From LifeTalk and LifeTalk Plus this week:

Thanks to everyone who has subscribed to LifeTalk Insider - Let’s get stuck in…

Nick and 38 others: What does everyone think the ongoing advice fee covers? Specifically, do you think its OK to charge an ongoing advice fee then charge for top ups? Click…

Vicki and 13 others: Goal Based Planning, and Lifestyle Financial Planning. Do you see these as interchangeable titles for the same thing, or different offerings? Or do you use a different term for a proper planning offering? Click…

LifeTalk member and 8 others: I’m newly qualified based in Southend, Essex. I’d love to know if there are any videos/materials that show financial advisers doing meetings?

I want to be able to streamline my client meetings but I feel a bit all over the place. I think being able to watch or listen in to some client meetings would be amazing and really help me improve my process. Click…

Andrew and 12 others: Is any one else being questioned by Starling bank about their business?

I am a self employed IFA structured as a company, working for a regional firm. I have answered their questions about turnover, employees (just me) and how money will be deposited in the account (bank transfers only from firm) but they are now asking about pension advice and services I offer. Any tips or advice - am I about to be debanked? Click…

LifeTalk and 60 others: It’s 1984 - what car are you driving? Click…

LifeTalk member and 15 others: I've got covenants in place after leaving a firm last year. I'm not questioning my client related covenants, they are clear and accepted.

However I am prohibited with working with any 'key employees' that were also employed during that time. There is no definition of what a 'Key Employee' is. What would you expect it to be? Someone with a management role? An SM&CR name? A fee earner or regulated adviser or a brilliant paraplanner maybe?

My (and the employee's) definition might be different to the firms. How can we find out? Ask them or just wait to be sued? The ex-colleague has already left, we've caught up since and would like to work together. Click…

Taylor and 12 others: I’m writing a piece for an industry magazine and I’m looking for any nuggets of wisdom from our profession if you have any. Working title is something like “Tips for success when starting your own advice business”. What are your top tips? Click…

LifeTalk and 17 others: To what extent have you lost business, either existing or potential, due to the impact of bad technology? Click…

LifeTalk member and 3 others: Looking for recommendations of supplementary support training providers for completing CII Diploma in Financial Planning and whether they're worth it. Many thanks. Click…

Martin and 15 others: Carry Forward. Do you need relevant earnings in the current tax year to cover the whole contribution using carry forward? And I’m aware you need to be a member of a pension scheme for the years that you want to carry forward but would having a Lifetime ISA in those years as opposed to a pension count? Click…

LifeTalk member and 12 others: Looking for some advice as a new adviser. I have just started taking on my own clients, and I am also still doing paraplanning for my firms internal team. I have lots going on and want to stay as organised as possible.

We use IO but I don’t particularly like their Task/workflow system. Can anyone recommend or share how you stay organised with various clients and what needs doing for each client? Click…

Mohammad and 10 others: can anyone direct me to any tool that can review platforms? Pension wrappers...? Click…
