Your LifeTalk Insider #39

Welcome back…

From LifeTalk and LifeTalk Plus this week:

James and 18 others: Any recommendations for a small AE scheme please? 11 staff. Standard 8% conts. Not overly well paid. So far we’re looking at Peoples Pension, Royal London and Aviva. Click…

Cleona and 8 others: Trust experts please: A discretionary trust for 3 grandkids set up by grandparents at birth. kids are 10, 7 and 1 yr old. And withdrawals. Is it possible and relatively easy for the trustees (parents) to make withdrawals to fund Jisa’s for the 3 children? What is the process if it is possible? Click…

Thanks again for subscribing to LifeTalk Insider, we’re getting great feedback on this new way to get quick access to the most popular posts in our Facebook group.

Thanks also to all the IFAs and financial planners who have signed up to our brand new group LifeTalk Plus. After seventeen years on Facebook we wanted to create an additional space which has much more focus on business and personal development and also lead generation.

LifeTalk Plus has some distinct advantages for advisers, the main one being that there is no algorithm telling you what to see in the group. And unlike the Facebook group, every post is titled and categorised making it much easier to find and follow the topics you actually want to see.

Advisers have joined LifeTalk Plus to also get these resources:

  • Free Report: 2023/24 League Table of Adviser's Biggest Business Challenges

  • Free Worksheet: How to Define and Market to your Ideal Client as a Financial Adviser

  • Free 488 page eBook: Marketing and Lead Generation for Financial Advisers

Simple budget-friendly subscription. No tie-in period - cancel anytime.

LifeTalk member and 42 others: Scenario: Professional sports man, £50k per week wages, 23 years of age and looking to invest in the most tax efficient way for the next 15 years. Not sure if they will become non UK resident when they retire. Can’t give risk at this stage, but I think likely to be about 8/10. Not currently investing into a pension. Can’t give any more at this stage, this is just a scenario I’ve been given.

Neil: I’ve had a referral of a particularly tragic story. My client’s husband got diagnosed with a serious illness that his father suffered with and died from. It seems he resigned from his job without his wife’s knowledge and then some months later killed himself unable to face the treatment.

The ex employer is a well known big corporate. Has anyone had any experience of appealing to the trustees about payment of DIS in this sort of situation? He was clearly troubled and not in ‘his right mind’ and now his widow is in a financial pinch. Click…

LifeTalk and 21 others: We have a valuable new tool in development which helps advisers to identify and engage with potentially vulnerable clients in a professional, confidential and courteous manner.

It will be live very shortly. If you would like to take an early look and test it, please say Yes or put your hand up in this thread. Click here…

Robyn and 8 others: Has anybody completed any research they wouldn’t mind sharing regarding sequencing risk?

I am looking at our CRP and considering a normal growth model v 12 months income in cash and balance in growth model v a specialist volatility managed model (like the Bordier decum service). I would be interested if anybody has actually proven which option works best in all market conditions and how they reached that conclusion? Click…

Ed and 17 others: I have just received a copy of financial statement from my client who is getting divorced from her husband . The financial form shows his CETV not guaranteed from BT ( BTPS )

He is in retirement aged 72 receiving 15,088.73 pa gross which is £1054.79 after tax as he has a reduced state pension of £8000 pa approx !

I am shocked and horrified to see the CETV is only £201, 932.61 . This sounds and feels far too low for an index linked pension ? He took all of the tax free cash first after doing 40 years service at age 65 . Can anyone who is an expert tell me if this is reasonable . I know annuity rates are good now but it don’t seem a lot? From LifeTalk Plus this week:
