Your LifeTalk Insider #37

Welcome back…

From LifeTalk his week:

NEWS! LifeTalk is 20 this week! Happy Birthday to us! 🥳

Thank you to the many IFAs and financial advisers who have supported our community since launch in 2004.

The original group was on Ecademy.com and over time we grew communities on LinkedIn and on Facebook.

The latter has been live for an amazing seventeen years, though for several reasons the Facebook platform has become less and less appropriate for hosting a professional group.

As we look to the future, I want to provide LifeTalk's financial adviser members with even more value from the community, including

  • No algorithm deciding what members should see

  • The opportunity to build deeper relationships with other members

  • More focus on training and education for advisers

  • A much better mobile experience

  • A superior search tool

  • The ability for members to ‘connect’ with one another

  • Categorised and titled posts making them easier to find so that members can focus on specific issues and posts of interest

Also…

  • No irrelevant advertisements

  • More advice related content without unwanted distractions from other Facebook content

  • A calendar of relevant industry events

  • The ability to fine tune notifications

  • Rewards for engagement with posts and other members

  • Financial rewards for introducing new members

So with immediate effect, I’m excited to announce that we are starting the process of transitioning the LifeTalk Facebook group to a new and dynamic platform on Skool.

IFAs and advisers have already started joining and even after one day they are saying:

“A much cleaner interface and much easier to find interesting posts”

“I love that each post has a label and title”

“It’s good to be able to continue conversations with specific members through the private chat”

“Amazing, I can choose what topics I want to see with a single click”

“I was being constantly distracted by Facebook notifications and now I can choose when I see interesting posts”

At a stroke, our new platform provides a far superior experience for financial adviser members and marks a significant step in enhancing our collective learning and engagement experience and is far more appropriate for a community of financial advice and planning professionals in the modern world.

A small monthly investment – A big leap in value 📈

To provide this enhanced experience, we’re introducing a modest monthly investment of just $9 for accessing our new, upgraded and distraction-free community. That's around 23 pence or an apple a day and I’m delighted to see so many advisers taking this up and joining us.

This is integral to maintaining the quality, exclusivity and relevance of the content and interactions on the platform. We believe this investment will significantly elevate the value you receive from our community and the benefits it brings to your business.

IFAs, financial planners and advisers are already registering on the new platform and you can join them here:

Here’s what financial planner Mike LeGassick says:

"Phil has been supporting advisers for decades and I have learned a great deal from him over the years. The new look LifeTalk community takes it up another gear and is a trusted positive disrupter and great asset to our noble profession. I highly recommend that IFAs and financial planners join the new look LifeTalk as soon as possible."

Howard and 4 others: There are plenty of tools out there to help firms research & conduct due diligence on platforms. Is there anything similar to help identify an appropriate back-office system?

We have been with ours for many years but have reached a point where we feel that the lack of integration with other tools is holding us back. Click…

Dave and 14 others: Anyone got any good news to share today because the first 5 hours of my day today have been damn awful! Click…

Nick and 14 others: Solicitor has drafted a Deed of Variation for a beneficiary client establishing a Discretionary Trust holding £325k. Does the £325k need to physically go from the estate bank account into a Trustee bank account and then to the beneficiary bank account (by way of interest-free loan), or is it sufficient to 'journal' the transactions and just move the £325k from the estate accounts to the beneficiary bank account? Click…

Ollie and 127 others: I am 22 and qualified for wealth and mortgage advise back in July. I am really struggling with finding leads and am certainly expected to be bringing in more than I currently am.

I would greatly appreciate any advice on how you all got set up. I’m doing all the usual things like building a network, posting on social media and trying to get the referral train rolling.

Also if you have paid for leads, what works well and what doesn’t? Click…

Emmelia and 38 others: Can I ask, how do most people collect and complete a fact find? Do you use an app or built in application within system? Do you use a word/ PDF document? Other?

Wondering if I’m missing an easier way to compile client file (We have IO but don’t find soft fact collection very good). Click…

Martyn and 19 others: Have any of you had a company director client that has been challenged on the 'wholly and exclusively' test? Click…

Miles and 12 others: Anyone have experience of Dynamic Planner? Functionality - cost - ease of use? Click…

Kevin and 16 others: After being asked by yet another provider to provide AML confirmation in a different format, I am looking at a digital version of the traditional rubber stamp we currently use in the office so that ID can be verified digitally. Has anyone used a template format within word, acrobat, canva or similar to create the typical "I certify this to be a true likeness....etc" Click…

Howard and 15 others: I'm planning on reorganising our filing and starting again with new folder structures and filing routines.

Currently I have three top folders, one for client files, one for business files and one for management files. The client folder is split by surname_firstname. The folder structure underneath is variable!

The Office folder has a ton of folders that could no doubt be arranged better. The management folder is generally only for me to manage so it's pretty simple. We've tried naming files with dates, client names, description etc. but it's been variable.

Has anyone settled on a folder/file structure that they have found works well in their business? Click…
