From the LifeTalk forum
Darren and 30 others: Great planning by the PFS to hold the Conference in the middle of half term. Click…
Brad and 19 others: I have just turned off my unbiased subscription. I am considering signing up to VouchedFor. The main objective for me is to find new clients locally. Question…
Carwyn and 34 others: I’m looking to recommend a couple of VCTs to existing clients. Have you any provider recommendations? Click…
Elliot and 16 others: I’m speaking to a lady who has her SIPP managed by a local firm who’ve sold to a big national. The whole relationship has soured and they threatened to charge her if she decided to leave them - so she’s looking for a new adviser. Click…
Aron and 22 others: How do I calculate the gross UFPLS for a client with all their personal allowance available and wanting a net annual drawdown of £42,000? (is it Friday yet?) Click…
Chris and 15 others: Mcloud Judgement - I've a client who works as a surgeon in the NHS and we're looking to use carry forward to make sizeable personal pension contribution to reduce his adjusted net income. I've requested that he provides previous years benefit statements to establish unused AA from previous years. Click…
Brad and 31 others: Bit of a weird one and likely outside of most of our area of expertise. I have just met with one of my biggest clients (a CEO of a large firm) who is not happy with his current bank (Barclays) as they haven't dealt with some fraud on his account very well (it’s worth noting he gave them a fair chance to redeem themselves and they didn't). Question…
John and 49 others: We are currently evaluating our use of Voyant. I was wondering if we could get a simple list here of alternative cash flow software I could go and check out. Click…
Adam and 14 others: One of my longest standing clients has been left in a pickle by her family, she is aged 92, has a Will and LPA’s in place, with her nephews as executors and attorneys. They have fallen out and she wants to replace them, and she has asked if I would be willing to act as she has no other family members to ask/trust, and all her friends are either similar aged or already passed away. Click…
Paul and 28 others: I have a couple age 75, about £1.2m in pensions. Property worth about £1.25m. No other material assets. They've fallen in love with their forever house (it's all emotion) which is much more suitable for their old age. But it is a new build and estate agents are putting pressure on. They want to bridge the gap before they sell their current property. Click…

LifeTalk member and 55 others: a little pick-me-up needed I think - struggling a bit!
Relatively new to the game (since mid 2021). Long story short, every conversation I've had with clients brought on in the time frame - mainly during reviews annually and ad-hoc - has been quite negative.
Every day I'm constantly battling emails and phone calls to justify charges, performance etc. I try to go to the whole long-term view and the subsequent 'counselling' side through their thoughts. Of course, I keep going back to the holistic planning approach and trying to enforce that performance isn't everything type conversation. But coming into year three with a lot of clients, I feel like I'm just saying the same things over and over and over again as all they're seeing are losses, or at least very limited growth. Eugen and 46 others: Why active value funds outperformed the passives from Dimensional and iShares? Has someone spoken recently with Dimensional about this - especially as they are bottom (or rock bottom)? Click…
